Pursuit leads to arrest of man on felony and misdemeanor charges; search underway for driver

Ahmad JohnsonGonzales, LA – On September 4, a City of Gonzales Police Department officer made an enforcement stop on a car that was swerving from the yellow line to the side fog line on West Worthy Street within the city limits. As the vehicle came to a stop, the passenger, Ahmad Johnson of 4562 Brown Street in Darrow, attempted to exit the vehicle.

The officer instructed Johnson to remain in the vehicle and for the driver to exit. At this time, the driver sped off with both himself and the passenger still in the truck.

The officer went in pursuit of the vehicle which wrecked on South George Street. Both the driver and the passenger began running north bound and escaped on foot.

More officers and a detective were called to the scene, where they found a Glock 22 semi-automatic handgun, 13 grams of crack cocaine and 20 grams of heroin.

As officers continued to investigate, a female approached them to say a man had come inside of her home and was hiding under her bed. Officers immediately made their way into the residence, where they found Johnson, who was injured from the accident, and placed him under arrest before transporting him to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Upon his release, he was transported to the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville and is currently awaiting bond on the following charges:
